Issue/Introduction

SEP Client installation fails

Application Error MsiInstaller xxxx 11402 Product: Symantec Endpoint Protection -- Error 1402.Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SMC.  System error 5.  Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.  
20/10/2011 19:10:10 Application Error MsiInstaller xxxx \administrator 11406 Product: Symantec Endpoint Protection -- Error 1406.Could not write value Path to key \SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SMC\TSE.  System error .  Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

SEP_INST.LOG shows:

Cause

When checking registry

"HKLM\Software\Symantec\InstalledApps "

was missing

Resolution

Added registry key "HKLM\Software\Symantec\InstalledApps " manually
