Issue/Introduction

When attempting to configure the Analysis Server in IT Analytics, the error "Analysis Server servername\instance does not exist." appears when clicking on the Verify Connection button.

Analysis Server 'servername\instance' does not exist.

Cause

The firewall on the server that hosts the Analysis Server is not configured to open ports 2382 (Microsoft OLAP services) and 2383 (the main pathway for the traffic between SQL Server and clients through third-party applications). The Analysis Server uses these two ports to communicate with the client applications, similarly to the way that the SQL Server uses port 1433 to communicate with client applications.

Resolution

Configure the firewall on the server that hosts the Analysis Server to open ports 2382 and 2383. If the Microsoft Firewall is used, information on how to configure it can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174937.aspx. Otherwise, refer to the firewall's product documentation or its administrator.
