Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1 RU5, the service for Symantec Management Client (smc.exe) is no longer listed in Windows Services, .i.e. Symantec Management Client

N/A

Cause

This is expected based on the current design of Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 RU5 client.

Resolution

Smc.exe is now smc.dll and is loaded by ccSvcHst.exe.  ccSvcHst.exe is linked to the SEPMasterService and listed as Symantec Endpoint Protection in the services list.

As long as ccSvcHst.exe is running , smc.exe is loaded and it is still possible to issue the following command line based parameters to smc.exe.

smc -stop
smc -start
