Issue/Introduction

After installing or upgrading a PGP Encryption Desktop client (Symantec Encryption Desktop), the client's computer name does not appear in the PGP Encryption Server (Symantec Encryption Management Server) console under Consumers / Devices / Drive Encryption Computers.

Environment

  • Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 MP2 and above.
  • Encryption Management Server 3.3 and above.

Cause

If PGP Encryption Desktop is installed with drive encryption disabled, the computer name will not be registered with the PGP Encryption Server.

Resolution

By default, PGP Encryption Desktop is installed with the potential to use drive encryption. Whether or not drive encryption actually occurs, the computer name will be registered with the PGP Encryption Server.

However, it is possible to disable drive encryption completely using the PGP_INSTALL_WDE=0 msiexec switch. Please see article 171110 for further information.

If PGP Encryption Desktop is installed or upgraded with the PGP_INSTALL_WDE=0 msiexec switch, the computer name will not be registered with the PGP Encryption Server.
