Symantec Announces Opening of Security Response Center in Singapore

First center to be established in ASEAN, enabling faster response to local and regional cyber threats

SINGAPORE – August 1, 2012 – Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced the opening of its new Security Response Center in Singapore. "The establishment of the Symantec Security Response Center in Singapore represents our commitment to Singapore and the larger ASEAN market," said Bernard Kwok, senior vice president for Asia Pacific and Japan at Symantec. "Setting up our facility here allows us to not only tap into the wider regional talent pool, but also the world-class research environment in Singapore; further bolstering our cutting-edge technology in protecting our customers and partners from online security threats."

"Today, there's no doubt that we are facing an increasingly sophisticated and complex threat landscape. Governments, corporations and even consumers are grappling to protect themselves against rapidly-evolving targeted attacks, socially engineered malware or even politically-motivated hacktivist attacks. Just last year, Symantec blocked more than 5.5 billion attacks, an increase of more than 81 percent from the previous year. Clearly, this is a chronic and urgent problem that needs to be addressed," said Eugene Teo, manager for Security Response in Singapore, Symantec. "With the new Security Response Center in Singapore combined with the security expertise from the broader Symantec Security Response group, we are well-poised to identify and mitigate these threats, providing comprehensive and up-to-date protection for our customers, enabling them to be confidently connected online."

The Security Response Center in Singapore is part of the larger Symantec Security Response organization, comprising of a worldwide team of security engineers, threat analysts and researchers that provide the underlying functionality content and support for all Symantec corporate and consumer security products. At the heart of all of our products is the Symantec Global Intelligence Network, which is made up of more than 64.6 million attack sensors and records thousands of events per second. This network monitors attack activity in more than 200 countries and territories and tracks more than 47,662 recorded vulnerabilities from over 15,967 vendors representing over 40,006 products.

Yeoh Keat Chuan, managing director of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), said, "In today's highly connected and rapidly evolving cyber world, identifying and developing effective responses to security threats require the strong technical and domain expertise found in Symantec's Security Response Center. We are very pleased that Symantec has decided to set up its only such center for the ASEAN region in Singapore. This center is an example of how leading IT companies are increasingly looking to Singapore as a regional hub to aggregate and analyze data, in order to derive intelligence and develop key solutions."

"Symantec's decision to invest in this Security Response Center will also be the catalyst in bringing leading cyber security know-how from across the world into Singapore and ASEAN; enabling skill-set transfer to local talents and growing the local cyber security industry, through collaborations with our partners," continued Kwok. "This is a win-win for both Symantec and Singapore as cyber security requires the efforts of both the private and public sectors, collaborating closely to raise awareness and combat the threat of cyber crimes."

The Security Response Center in Singapore is the most recent addition to Symantec's global network of Security Response Centers located around the world, including Tokyo, Chengdu, Dublin and Culver City.
