Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows
Veritas Storage Foundation High Availability for Windows provides advanced online storage management, high availability and disaster recovery for Microsoft Windows Server physical and virtual environments. Storage Foundation virtualizes storage seen by a host for an optimal management and online configuration experience. Thorough application protection spanning local availability through wide area disaster recovery is provided by Veritas Cluster Server.
WHITE PAPER
Transform Your Windows Data Center
Today's data centers have become highly evolved, with virtualization being widely deployed and many organizations starting to move toward the cloud. As with any change, challenges, both anticipated and unanticipated, can arise.
This paper will identify some of those challenges and discuss how Symantec can help address them to allow administrators to provide more dynamic and resilient IT environments.
What are Agents, Options and Add-ons
Agents are required for a product to operate on a certain platform.
Agents, options and add-ons are used to extend the functionality of the base product.
Agents
High Availability Agents
Veritas Cluster Server provides infrastructure, application, database and replication agents that are the foundation for all application and dependent resource monitoring and remediation such as failover.
While many agents are directly available within the downloadable product, agents are updated and new agents are released on a frequent basis. Check the
Symantec Operations Readiness Tool for up to date and newly available agents.
Infrastructure, application and database agents are entitled in all editions of Storage Foundation High Availability for Windows, Storage Foundation HA/DR for Windows, Veritas Cluster Server for Windows and Veritas Cluster Server HA/DR for Windows.
Replication agents are entitled in all editions of Storage Foundation HA/DR for Windows and Veritas Cluster Server HA/DR for Windows.
Options
Microsoft Failover Cluster
The Microsoft Failover Cluster option for Storage Foundation for Windows provides storage management compatibility and support in a native Microsoft clustering physical and virtual environment. You can leverage all of Storage Foundation for Windows advanced online storage management capabilities, like dynamic volumes and online migration and relayout, within a Microsoft Failover Cluster configuration.
This option is included in Storage Foundation Enterprise for Windows.

Dynamic Multipathing
Dynamic Multi-pathing increasing data availability by making use of multiple paths between a host and its SAN attached storage. Data access that would have failed because of a path failure are automatically rerouted to an alternate path. Dynamic Multi-Pathing for Windows is Microsoft Multipath IO (MPIO) compliant and certified.
While Device Specific Modules are included in the downloadable product, updated and new array integration is released on a frequent recurring basis. Check the
Symantec Operations Readiness Tool for the most up to date Device Driving Installation released for Dynamic Multi-Pathing for Windows.
This option is included in all purchasable editions of Storage Foundation for Windows, Storage Foundation High Availability for Windows and Storage Foundation HA/DR for Windows. Dynamic Multi-Pathing for Windows is also available as an independent product.
FlashSnap
Veritas FlashSnap allows you to create independently addressable point-in-time snapshots that are mirrored copies of the volumes on your server. These snapshots can be used for immediate rapid recovery of an application or can be easily moved to another server for backup or other purposes such as testing or data mining. FlashSnap ensures application aware and consistent snapshots for applications such as Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SharePoint Server and Symantec Enterprise Vault.
This option is included in Storage Foundation Enterprise for Windows, Storage Foundation Enterprise High Availability for Windows and Storage Foundation Enterprise HA/DR for Windows.
Volume Replicator
Volume Replicator provides you with a reliable host based volume replication solution for maximum business continuity in a disaster event or for between site data migration. Volume Replicator’s write order fidelity ensures data consistency at secondary sites. Depending on your recovery point service level objectives, you have the flexibility to accommodate for asynchronous or synchronous replication and to provide for stringent zero data loss tolerance in a asynchronous wide area topology with use of bunker replication.
Global Cluster
Global Cluster option provides an end-to-end automated disaster recovery solution. This option monitors and automates failover of an application between two sites without having to stretch a single cluster – providing a more reliable DR solution between two geographically dispersed sites.
This option is included in all of editions of Storage Foundation HA/DR for Windows and Veritas Cluster HA/DR for Windows.
Hyper-V Disaster Recovery Manager
Veritas Cluster Server for Windows provides Hyper-V Disaster Recovery Manager that performs fault monitoring and end to end disaster recovery failover for Hyper-V virtual machines. Integration with hardware replication, including monitoring, migration and takeover, allows you to continue to leverage your investment in enterprise hardware replication. Hyper-V Disaster Recovery Manager integrates with Microsoft Failover Cluster, allowing Microsoft Failover Cluster to continue to provide local high availability for virtual machines while Disaster Recovery Manager provides between-site disaster recovery.
This option is included in Veritas Cluster Server HA/DR for Windows.
