Certification Updates for Specialists

What Is Happening?

Symantec Education Services presents an updated certification program! The historical Veritas and Symantec programs will be merged together, creating a combined program that better enables customers to have confidence in their connected experiences—infrastructure, information, and interactions.
Symantec is currently planning to release four new Symantec Certified Specialist exams:
  1. Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0 Administration
  2. NEW! High Availability Solutions for UNIX using Veritas Cluster Server 5.0 Administration
  3. Data Protection for UNIX using NetBackup 6.5 Administration
  4. Data Protection for Windows using NetBackup 6.5 Administration
Pilot/beta exams will become available for Storage Foundation 5.0 for UNIX and Veritas Cluster Server 5.0 for UNIX by December 31, 2007. Pilot/beta exams will become available for NetBackup in January 2008. The following represents the exams that Symantec will retire after the pilots/betas as well as the final/live exams are available.

DP-023X: Data Protection Administration for UNIX (NBU 5.0) DP-065X: Data Protection Administration for UNIX (NBU 6.5)

Who Is Affected?

Existing Certified Specialists: You will be able to participate in the upcoming pilot/beta exams. If you pass a pilot/beta exam, your certification will be valid until two newer versions of the product are released and until a newer version of the exam is released.

Candidates for Certified Specialists: If you plan to test for a specific certification in the next few months before the pilot/beta exams are available, you will be able to take the existing SF-040X, HA-022X, DP-023W, and DP-023X exams. When you pass a historical exam, your certification will be valid until December 31, 2008.

After December 31, 2008, your certification designation will expire, and you will need to take the new exam. You will also be able to wait until the pilot/beta exams are available. If you pass the pilot/beta exams, your certification will be valid until two newer versions of the product are released and until a newer version of the exam is released.

If you do not take a pilot/beta exam or if you do not pass it, you will maintain your certification status until the live/final exam is released, and you will need to take the new exam to remain current.

Existing Certified Professionals and Candidates for Professionals: The new Specialist exams will apply to both the Specialist and Professional levels of the Symantec Certification Program.
