Altiris Certification Merging with the Symantec Certification Program
As a result of the Symantec/Altiris merger, the Altiris Certification Program is being merged into the Symantec Certification Program. The existing Altiris Certification credentials have been retired pending the release of a new Altiris Certification credential based on the Symantec Certification Program qualifications and standards (see December 19th retirement announcement). To help understand this change, please review the following Frequently Asked Questions:"I understand that the existing Altiris Credentials have been retired, but what comes next?"
Symantec is creating a new Symantec Certified Specialist credential based on the Altiris product suite developed to test installation, configuration, product administration, day-to-day maintenance, and troubleshooting skills. The new Symantec Certified Specialist credential will be the industry benchmark of competency and experience for Altiris end users. Look for new Altiris certification exams and training in the upcoming months (late 2009).
"Are there any upgrade exams or credentials I should be aware of?"
There are no new [upgrade] exams to complete for any of the Altiris suite of products under the current Symantec Certification Program. As any new certification exams are developed and made available as part of the Symantec Certification Program, notifications will be sent out to candidates holding legacy Altiris awards.
"Has my existing Altiris Certification expired?"
No. Your existing Altiris Certification credential does not have an expiration date. No action is required to maintain an "Altiris certification" that was achieved prior to the merger of the Altiris product solutions under the Symantec Certification Program. The no-expiration policy means that the value of legacy Altiris certification will be based on how relevant the certification’s competencies are to the IT marketplace. This means that legacy Altiris certification, regardless of the associated product versions, will continue to hold their value in the marketplace as long as there is a demand from the industry. When certification verification is required, Symantec will identify product version, thus distinguishing between those who have upgraded certifications and those who haven’t. Once Symantec has released new Altiris certification exams as part of the Symantec Certified Specialist program, Symantec highly recommends recertification to remain current with Symantec technology and trends.
