Prior to 1999, Qualcomm operated in a decentralized, silo-based environment with diverse business and technology solutions spread across dozens of different site locations. This diversity created operational risk, limited the ability to scale for growth, and resulted in higher business costs associated with the purchase, training, and maintenance of the company's diverse solutions. Qualcomm consolidated its IT operations and standardized on Symantec data center software solutions. The different solution pieces were deployed over a period of several years starting with the deployment of Veritas NetBackup in 1999, Veritas Cluster Server in 2002, and Veritas NetBackup PureDisk in 2007. Qualcomm also relies on Veritas Storage Foundation for volume management and file system management, Symantec Enterprise Vault for email archiving and discovery, and Symantec Business Critical Services for optimal management of its data center software environment. A Total Operational and Economic Impact (TOEI) analysis by The Alchemy Solutions Group pinpointed millions of dollars in cost savings, productivity improvements, and cost avoidance resulting from the Symantec software and services solutions.
