Technology has always been important to both United and Continental Airlines, but it took on new meaning with the merger of the two carriers. Indeed, United CEO Jeff Smisek characterizes the “New United” as a “technology company with wings.” IT is central to most everything that United does, and this includes security and compliance. With the merger, the United team approached it as an opportunity to reassess its IT infrastructure and toolsets, and standardization is playing an important role. Various pieces of the Symantec security and compliance portfolio are being used as part of the rationalization process.
