CUPERTINO, Calif. - 6 June, 2006 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that Veritas Configuration Manager (formerly Relicore Clarity) was awarded the 2006 Codie Award for Best Systems Management Solution by the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA). Veritas Configuration Manager is the industry's only data center change and configuration management solution capable of automatically discovering, mapping, and tracking changes to application and server components in real time. The Codie Award celebrates outstanding achievement and vision in software, education technology, and digital content. Award recipients are selected through a rigorous review process conducted by a combination of industry peers and journalists to identify leaders and innovators across the industry.
“This acknowledgement underscores the importance to IT organizations of comprehensively understanding their data center server and application environment – and tracking any changes so they can take active control over that environment,” said Henri Isenberg, vice president, server foundation and APM product group, Symantec Corp. “Symantec is honored that an elite panel of industry influencers and our peers have recognized Configuration Manager as the preeminent systems management solution.”
The Codie Award holds the distinction of being the only peer-recognition award program in the industry. For 21 years, the Codie has remained the leading honor for the software and information industry’s finest products and services. This year, winners were chosen from more than 1,026 nominations submitted by more than 500 companies—breaking the nominations record set in the 2005 awards.
“This 21st Annual Codie Awards continues our tradition of celebrating the best products in the software and information industry,” said Ken Wasch, president of SIIA. “Being a winner among so many fine nominees is a solid achievement. I congratulate all of the companies.”
The Codie Award designation for Best Systems Management Solution is reserved for the IT tool that best assists system administrators in managing and monitoring networks. Configuration Manager was selected for the value it delivers to enterprises seeking to rapidly troubleshoot problems, improve service impact analysis, and monitor change activity. One of many recent accolades, Network Computing awarded Configuration Manager its Well-Connected Award in April 2006 and Editor’s Choice Awards in September 2005 for its unprecedented insight into complex, distributed enterprise application infrastructures.
Veritas Configuration Manager helps administrators comprehensively understand what is running in the data center, and track how it’s changing. Configuration Manager discovers all the servers and applications in the data center, as well as their configurations and the dependencies between them. It then tracks any changes to these configurations and dependencies in real-time, and can compare current configurations to established standards to ensure internal and external compliance. Configuration Manager is a key offering within the Veritas Server Foundation product family which also includes Veritas Provisioning Manager and Veritas Cluster Server. Veritas Server Foundation gives enterprise customers the ability to discover in detail what is running on all the servers in their data center, actively manage and administer those servers, and ensure that mission critical applications running on those servers are always available.
