SINGAPORE – Symantec Vision 2011– November 18, 2011 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today welcomed over 1,000 customers, partners and industry experts to Symantec Vision 2011, its annual user conference, in Singapore. Themed 'Surround Yourself,' the event provided customers and partners with a forum to learn more about Symantec's strategy and vision, the strategic IT trends driving the industry and how these trends could be leveraged by customers to transform their business today.
Enrique Salem, Symantec's president and CEO, delivered the keynote address, identifying significant trends in cloud computing, mobility and virtualization that are driving IT transformation for businesses. He also took the opportunity to outline the ways Symantec is enabling customers and partners to benefit from these trends.
“IT trends in mobile, cloud computing and virtualization are driving increased connectivity on an unprecedented scale. These connections are creating greater opportunities and greater points of risk - risk to our intellectual property, financial integrity, corporate reputation, the control of our individual and corporate identities, privacy and even national infrastructures,” said Enrique Salem, Symantec president and CEO, in his keynote address. “Without the promise of protection, the connected world will not reach its full potential. As an industry pioneer, Symantec is committed to enabling users to secure and manage their information assets and identities so they can embrace the latest trends and leverage the full benefits of the connected world with confidence.”
Cloud Computing, Mobility and Virtualization – Strategic IT Trends Driving How Businesses Operate
With rapid advances in cloud computing, mobile and virtualization technologies, today's modern business interacts with employees, customers and third parties in many diverse ways. This new interaction era is presenting IT security challenges for businesses.
According to Symantec's 2011 State of Cloud Survey across the Asia South region, eighty-four percent of respondents are confident that moving to the cloud will not impact, or will actually improve their security. However, achieving security for cloud environments is also a top concern for these organizations, which cited potential risks including malware, data breach from unauthorized use of cloud-based systems, sharing sensitive data insecurely, hacker-based theft, and loss of confidential data. The survey also revealed that IT organizations may not be adequately prepared for the move to the cloud, as more than half of the respondents said their IT staff are not ready at this time.
Public and private clouds are also becoming more mainstream with businesses regarding cloud as no longer an 'if', but a 'when'. Symantec is helping customers overcome the obstacles of moving to the cloud by streamlining security, compliance and availability requirements and is extending its lead in the cloud space by delivering storage optimization and storage-as-a-service solutions.
Addressing this requirement is Symantec's recent major refresh to its storage and availability management portfolio to help customers build the private cloud they want by leveraging their existing infrastructure. Symantec Storage Foundation High Availability 6.0 will provide resiliency for the private cloud with its virtual business service capabilities which orchestrate, automate, and simplify the recovery of multi-tiered applications across different operating systems and virtualization platforms. Storage Foundation High Availability 6.0 will also help IT organizations manage and deliver storage as a service—optimized for physical, virtual, and cloud environments — by providing the ability to scale storage capacity up or down while applications remain online and reducing storage footprint through deduplication, compression, and thin reclamation for primary storage.
Furthermore, the explosion of connectivity is bringing the promise of increased productivity, but at the cost of a greater risk of exposure. Symantec's global Internet Security Threat Report found 42 percent more mobile vulnerabilities in 2010 compared with 2009 – a sign that cybercriminals are starting to focus their efforts on the mobile space.
As a result sensitive data needs to be top of mind for businesses, which is why Symantec focuses on what matters most – information. By ensuring that customers have private, secure and simple access to information – anywhere, anytime, anyhow, Symantec can empower them to take advantage of today's connected environment.
