Janice Chaffin leads every aspect of Symantec’s nearly $2 billion Consumer Business Unit (CBU), which includes Symantec's premium Norton brand. Norton is the consumer security market share leader worldwide and has received almost 550 awards for its superior products under Chaffin’s leadership—twice as many as its competitors combined.
Since assuming her role in 2006, Chaffin has led a focused effort to expand Norton’s overall security footprint by acquiring a second brand, PC Tools, to reach more price-sensitive customers and increase penetration in emerging markets. She has also significantly grown the Norton portfolio to meet customers’ needs in the post-PC era of multiple devices and exploding data with two leading businesses, Norton Data Services and Norton Live. Norton Data Services has become the largest provider of consumer cloud-based back up in the world, and Norton Live, which delivers help remotely to consumers with tech problems, has grown by double digits year-over-year since its inception in 2009. Chaffin also drove the development and rollout of Norton’s eStore, which is now one of the world's largest software e-tailers.
During Chaffin’s tenure, Norton customer satisfaction and loyalty have reached record highs. Symantec has received three STAR Awards from the Technology Services Industry Association, the world's largest and most influential organization for technology service and support professionals. Norton was ranked number one in customer loyalty for the software industry in the Satmetrix 2011 Net Promoter Benchmark Study.
Previously, Chaffin served as Symantec's first Chief Marketing Officer and built a global, award-winning marketing operation. Before coming to Symantec, she spent 21 years at Hewlett-Packard in general management and marketing leadership roles.
Chaffin has been publicly recognized for her career accomplishments and community involvement. In 2010, she received the Award for Outstanding Achievement from the Family Online Safety Institute. She was also named Best Executive by the 2009 Annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Chaffin sits on the board of directors for International Game Technology (NYSE: IGT), a leader in the design, development and manufacture of gaming machines and systems products worldwide. She is also a trustee of the Montalvo Arts Center, a member of the advisory council of Illuminate Ventures, and a past President of the Saratoga-Los Gatos Chapter of National Charity League, Inc. a mother-daughter volunteer organization.
Chaffin graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, San Diego. She earned a M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles (now known as the UCLA Anderson School of Management), where she graduated as a Henry Ford Scholar.
