SymAccount and Enterprise Marketing Privacy Notice

Which data we collect
As you create a Symaccount for your company activities, or as you register online for events, promotions, downloads or other activities (“Online Activities”) Symantec Corporation, 350 Ellis Street, Mountain View (CA), USA (“Symantec”) will collect and process your contact details, including your company, your telephone number, address, email and company information. By creating Symaccount and/or registering for Online Activities, you agree to and acknowledge such processing.

How we use the data
If you create a Symaccount, we use the data for the purpose of setting up and creating your Symaccount. We use your Symaccount credentials to provide one single login to the different Symaccount applications and to authenticate you every time you access Symaccount.

If you just register for any Online Activity or event without creating a Symaccount, we use the data you provide to enable and manage the activity you have registered for. Symantec may transfer your data to the following categories of recipients acting on behalf of Symantec for the above purposes. These recipients may be located in countries that have a lower level of data protection than that provided for in EEA countries and Switzerland.


  1. Affiliates of the Symantec group in the EEA.
  2. Database administration companies in the US and in other countries outside the EEA, responsible for the administration of the database, and for design and modification of functionalities of the database.
  3. Marketing, Hosting and PR agencies in the US and in other countries outside the EEA that create, manage and/or communicate Online Activities on our behalf.
  4. Subcontractors and fulfillment partners acting on behalf of Symantec.

These recipients are only permitted to use your data for the services or function for which they have been engaged, and in accordance with the applicable law. By supplying us with your data you confirm that you do not consider use of such data in accordance with this Privacy Notice to be a breach of any of your rights under any applicable law or regulation and you give your consent to the terms of this Privacy Notice.


Marketing communications
If you check the relevant permission box, we and selected third parties on our behalf will use your contact information and the information about your interest in Symantec products and services for promotional use. Symantec, Symantec affiliates in the EEA and in the US, resellers in the EEA and in the US, may contact you by email, SMS, MMS and other electronic means.

For such purpose we may share your information with

  1. Affiliates of the Symantec group in your country, in the rest of the EEA and in the US, which may contact you to inquire about your interest in Symantec products and services;
  2. Marketing agencies in your country, in the EEA, in Switzerland and in the US, which may contact you on behalf of Symantec to follow up about your interest in Symantec products or services;
  3. Resellers of Symantec products and services in your country, in the EEA and in the US for the purpose of inquiring about your interest in Symantec products and services.

Any promotional emails we send you in the future will contain unsubscribe information. You may opt-out of future marketing communication at any time.
These entities are only permitted to use your data for the services or function for which they have been engaged, and in accordance with the applicable law.


Transfer of the data
The collection, use, process and transfer by Symantec of your data will be carried out in accordance with best standards and Symantec has taken steps to ensure that the collected data, if transferred outside of the EEA, receives an adequate level of protection as required by the EEA/Swiss data protection legislations. Symantec may transfer your personal data to countries outside the European Economic Area. We will not sell, trade, rent or lease your personal data to others. However, if we sell or otherwise transfer all or a substantial part of our business to which our web site relates, you agree that your personal data may be considered to be an asset of our business and may be assigned or otherwise transferred to a third party as part of the sale or transfer of such business.

Providing the data is not mandatory
Providing your data is not mandatory, but if you do not provide it, we will not be able to complete your Symaccount registration or provide the service or product that you requested.

Security of Personal Data
We have taken appropriate security measures, consistent with international information practices, to protect your personal data. These measures include, on our web sites and Internet-enabled technologies, administrative, technical, physical and procedural steps to protect your data from misuse, unauthorized access or disclosure, loss, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:

Physical safeguards, such as locked doors and file cabinets, controlled access to our facilities, and secure destruction of media containing personal data;

Technology safeguards, such as use of Symantec anti-virus and endpoint protection software, encryption, and monitoring of our systems and data centers to ensure compliance with our security policies, and in particular, credit card information is transmitted using secure socket layer (SSL) encryption;

Organizational safeguards, through training and awareness programs on security and privacy, to ensure employees understand the importance and means by which they must protect personal data, as well as through privacy policies and policy standards that govern how Symantec treats personal data.


Right to access and rectify your personal data
According to the laws of your country, you have the right to access free of charge, rectify and delete the data you have provided to us at any time by sending an email to privacy@symantec.com. However, there are exceptions to this right so that access may be denied where we consider that making the information available would reveal personal information about another person or where we are legally prevented from disclosing such information. If we refuse to provide you with access to your personal information, we will provide you with reasons for the refusal.
