Backup Exec Agent for Applications and Databases

The Backup Exec Agent for Applications and Databases provides market leading data protection for Exchange, SQL, SharePoint, Active Directory, Oracle, Enterprise Vault, and Lotus Domino in a virtual or physical environment.
  • Protection for Microsoft Exchange
Revolutionizes data protection and recovery by significantly reducing the number of backups and time required to protect Exchange. Only Backup Exec 2012 leverages ground-breaking patented Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) which helps IT Administrators save valuable time and money by giving them the ability to restore critical data such as individual emails and mailboxes from a single pass backup in seconds without the need for multiple Exchange backups. Fast, flexible technology protects Exchange 2003, 2007, and 2010 (including 2010 SP1) Servers while the application is still online.
  • Protection for Microsoft SQL Server
Designed to be flexible and easy to use, protection for Microsoft SQL Server provides fast, online protection of SQL Server with flexible recovery options that enable IT administrators to restore SQL Server databases down to the individual file group from a single pass backup. Administrators can also restore SQL server databases to destinations other than where they originated, directing a copy of the actual data streams being sent to media by a SQL Server database to a local directory for later use. SQL Server 2008 snapshots are integrated into the Backup Exec catalog for a consolidated look at all data copies available for recovery in seconds.
  • Protection for Microsoft SharePoint
Quickly and easily recover individual objects, documents or the entire SharePoint farm with robust data protection for Microsoft SharePoint. Supports Microsoft SharePoint 2010, both Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003, as well as Windows SharePoint Services 2.0/3.0. Using a 32-bit or 64-bit Backup Exec 2012 media server, you can protect 32-bit or 64-bit MOSS-2007 servers deployed on a Single-Server or within a Multi-Server Farm. Protection for SharePoint leverages ground-breaking patented Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) which helps users save time and money and reduces complexity by providing the ability to restore individual documents, sites and list items quickly and easily from a single-pass database backup without having to recover the entire database. Each file is recovered with attributes and security fully intact. GRT also enables the IT Administrator to restore the documents to the original document library in the SharePoint farm or redirect the restore of documents to the file system.
  • Protection for Microsoft Active Directory
Dramatically reduce the time to recover from small disasters of lost, deleted, corrupted or overwritten user accounts, objects, and attributes, helping to improve employee productivity, reduce the potential for greater issues, and alleviate the aggravation associated with traditional Active Directory protection and recovery. Backup Exec Enterprise Server Option

The Enterprise Server Option provides ultimate licensing simplicity by consolidating three Backup Exec options into one. Each Enterprise Server Option, licensed per managed Backup Exec environment, gives you unlimited access to the Backup Exec Advanced Disk-Based Backup Option, Backup Exec Central Admin Server Option and Backup Exec SAN Shared Storage Option.

Backup Exec Advanced Disk-Based Backup Option

Enables faster backups and restores through advanced disk-based backup and recovery, including Synthetic and Off-Host backups to perform zero impact backups. Synthetic backups reduce backup windows and network bandwidth requirements and do not impact the original client. True image restore functionality automatically restores data sets sequentially, simplifying restores. The Off-Host backup feature provides SAN-based Microsoft VSS-enabled snapshots using supported 3rd party hardware storage arrays. This enables better backup performance and frees the remote computer from processing the backup operation by taking a snapshot of its data volumes and importing the snapshots to the Backup Exec media server for fast local backup over the SAN. For a list of supported tape devices, please visit:

Backup Exec Central Admin Server Option

Simplifies management of multiple Backup Exec media servers by providing a centralized management console view of all backup and restore operations. The Central Admin Server uses the same Backup Exec console, but provides a consolidated view of all Backup Exec operations including centralized backup, restore, monitoring, alerting, and reporting for multiple Backup Exec media servers in a Windows data center, distributed throughout the network or at remote offices. The Central Admin Server Option makes Backup Exec simple to grow and effortless to manage. Operations can continue uninterrupted on the managed media server even when there is a non-persistent network connection to the central administration server.

Backup Exec SAN Shared Storage Option

This powerful LAN-free backup solution allows multiple distributed backup servers to centralize storage devices that are connected over a switched fabric or iSCSI SAN for greater performance, efficiency, and fault tolerance. SAN Shared Storage Option load balances job activity across shared devices from multiple Backup Exec servers. For a list of supported tape devices, please visit:

Backup Exec NDMP Option

Backup Exec Desktop and Laptop Option

With the majority of business-critical information residing outside the data center or off corporate servers, protection for desktops and laptops is a must. The enhanced Desktop and Laptop Option delivers continuous data protection to desktops and laptops whether in the office or on the road. Not only improving data protection and efficiency, this option enables users to restore their own files and maintains synchronization between multiple desktops and laptops so the most up-to-date file versions are available on all of a user's computers. Because the Desktop and Laptop Option does not require a dedicated stand-alone server as competing products do, it easily integrates into existing IT infrastructure and policies, helping lower the total cost of ownership.
The new push-install functionality from within Backup Exec centralizes deployment. Backup Exec 2010 includes support for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP 64-bit OS, as well as delta file transfer, reducing the total amount of data being backed up.
