New Features
Availability Across Any Distance for VMware ESX Environments
Organizations can deploy both local and remote clustering for complete disaster recovery. With a single click of a button, Veritas Cluster Server can migrate applications between single servers with in a local data center or move all applications to a data center several thousand miles away.- One tool to build both local and remote clusters for local availability and disaster recovery
Server, Application and Virtual Machine Monitoring
Veritas Cluster Server for VMware ESX enables users to monitor everything from the individual VMs, applications and the ESX server. Veritas Cluster Server also monitors the status of virtual resources (virtual NIC, storage, server, application, switch, IP address), and the dependencies among the resources so that any type of failure will prompt Veritas Cluster Server to take the necessary actions to automatically fail over the virtual server in the correct sequence.- Provides overall protection and a higher level of availability for the production applications in a virtualized environment
- Maximizes the benefits of running a virtual environment while allowing administrators to manage a mixed virtual and physical environment just as they would manage a physical environment
Automated Disaster Recovery Testing
Veritas Cluster Server for VMware ESX is the only solution that allows for testing both application failover and replication configurations without affecting the primary environment with the Fire Drill feature. The Fire Drill process is easy to configure and initiate, has zero impact on production environments, and can be integrated into the recovery and restoration components of any Business Continuity or Disaster Recovery plan.- Validates both the replicated data and the applications
- Fire Drill's use of potentially idle remote site hardware assets reduces total cost of ownership
- Assists with legal compliance regarding recovery
- Validates new data/hardware/application configuration changes, protects against administrative errors
- Builds the confidence in the DR plan that it will actually work if a true disaster were to happen
Multi-cluster Management and Reporting
From the Cluster Management Console of Veritas Cluster Server, organizations can now monitor, manage, and report on Veritas Cluster Server implementations on different platforms, virtual and physical, from a single Web-based console.- Increases administrative efficiency by providing an enhanced, centralized view of managed clusters and global applications, plus complete reports of each application’s availability status
- Reduces application downtime by helping administrators avoid common cluster configuration mistakes and audit unexpected cluster configuration changes
- Provides a standard way for administrators to detect and investigate cluster problems and to track the management history of all the managed cluster
Simple to Install, Configure and Maintain
Easy to use configuration wizards simplify installation and configuration of the cluster environment. Manage applications, virtual servers, storages, and other resources with a click of a mouse.- Simplifies server and storage management and cluster implementation
Out-of-the-box Support for Applications
Provides out-of-the-box support for applications commonly used in virtual environments including, but not limited to, Apache and IIS, and enterprise-class databases such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. In addition, new agents are continually being developed to support upcoming new applications.- Guarantees application compatibility, reduces time to deployment, and cuts consulting costs
