New Features

Veritas Storage Foundation for Databases new features include enhancements to storage mapping, storage checkpoint administration and GUI enhancements depending on the type of database supported. New database versions supported with this release include Oracle 9i and 10g, DB2 8.1+, and Sybase 12.x and higher.

Dynamic Storage Tiering

Unimportant or out-of-date files can be moved to less-expensive storage devices without changing the way users or applications access those files. This move is completely transparent to the users and applications that own the files.
  • Policies can be created for automating the movement of data.
  • File can be moved dynamically without having to be taken offline.

Storage Topology Analyzer

This release introduces functionality that maps tablespaces to physical disks and retrieves the relevant mapping tree information including the percentage of disk space used by a tablespace.
  • Map Tablespaces to physical disks.
  • Obtain percentage disk utilization by tablespaces.
  • Currently available with Storage Foundation for Oracle.

Support for Multivolume File Systems in Storage Checkpoint Policy Administration

Storage Checkpoint policy administration functionality now allows database administrators to specify the volumes on which Storage Checkpoints can be created for each file system within the database.
  • Control space used by Storage Checkpoints.
  • Prevent fragmentation of space used by checkpoints in the primary fileset.
  • Currently supported in Storage Foundation for Oracle, DB2.
