Nordea Bank AB was formed with the merger of four major Nordic banks in 2001. It was a major undertaking to consolidate all four separate groups, which included 11 data centers. With the consolidation complete, Nordea Bank embarked on the next phase approximately two years ago—a move from a functional to operational model. This included moving IT from a largely silo-based organization to one that resides within a larger business value chain. Standardization of IT processes and infrastructure is an important initiative. This included consolidation of endpoint security to Symantec Endpoint Protection across the company’s nearly 40,000 clients and almost 1,000 data center servers.
