Shanghai Telecom implemented Symantec solutions for data protection, storage management, and availability, which doubled the backup success rate, enabled a 100% restore success rate, saved millions on storage hardware and three FTEs in management time, and provided 99.99% availability for critical applications, compared to 98 percent previously.
Shanghai Telecom sought to strengthen data protection and enable more efficient storage management while improving availability for critical customer-facing billing and CRM systems. In 2008, the company implemented solutions from Symantec that addressed each of these concerns. Results include a sixfold increase in the amount of backup jobs per day, a twofold improvement in the backup success rate, 100 percent successful restores, and multimillion-dollar savings on storage hardware. The company is saving more than the equivalent of three full time staff members in management time, and was able to eliminate I/O bottlenecks in its CRM system. Availability for critical applications now stands at 99.99 percent, compared to 98 percent previously.
