IULM University was founded in 1968 in Milan, Italy as the Istituto Universitario di Lingue Moderne (University Institute of Modern Languages). In 1998, it changed its name to Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione IULM (University of Languages and Communication IULM) which better describes its dual mission: teaching languages and communication.
