John Brigden

John Brigden

Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East, and Africa Geography

John Brigden is senior vice president of Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) geography, responsible for driving Symantec's sales, operations, and business development across the region. He brings to this role more than fifteen years experience in sales support and legal affairs with an expertise in regulatory and compliance issues, which are topics top of mind with customers today.


Brigden joined Symantec as senior vice president, general counsel through the company’s merger with VERITAS Software. At VERITAS, Brigden also served as senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary, leading all legal matters, including sales and services transactions, compliance and corporate governance, intellectual property, strategic partnerships, litigation, and M&A.


Prior to joining VERITAS, Brigden held a number of management positions supporting sales and corporate development, as well as legal affairs and compliance for emerging and large technology enterprises, including Shutterfly, Inc. and Silicon Graphics, Inc. His technical background includes engineering positions at Rockwell International and General Motors Corporation. Brigden began his legal career in private practice focusing on complex commercial licensing transactions, anti-trust and intellectual property litigation. He also served as an intern with the U.S. Department of Justice.


Brigden holds a J.D. degree with honors from Georgetown University Law Center and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with honors from Purdue University. Brigden is a member of the California Bar Association and is also licensed to practice law in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He currently serves on the boards of both the Business Software Alliance and the Software Information Industry Association.
