agent

A component that allows workstations or other computers, for example, Microsoft SQL Server, to interact with the Backup Exec media server.

An agent is used to support host-based features that relate to assets and applications. The agent also performs asset discovery.

A component of the Streaming System that the Streaming Console uses to control, monitor, and manage Streaming Servers and the Streaming Server license supplied by Symantec.

Protection Agents can be client controlled or server controlled and can be protected by a firewall, OS Protection, and Host Integrity policies. A process that manages predefined Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) resource types. Agents bring resources online, take resources offline, and monitor resources to report any state changes to VCS. When an agent is started, it obtains configuration information from VCS and periodically monitors the resources and updates VCS with the resource status.

A process running on a managed host; that collects status information from network resources, such as hardware and virtual storage, and relays that information to the Management Server.
