Australian media-communications giant Telstra embarked on a five-year, game-changing IT transformation initiative in 2005. The transformation touches on everything from networks, products, IT systems, customer relationships, and workplace culture, all based on a vision of a new customer experience. A core component of the initiative is standardization of disparate IT systems, and part of this involves Symantec data center software such as Veritas NetBackup for data protection, Veritas Storage Foundation for file system and volume management, Veritas Cluster Server for system high availability, and Symantec Enterprise Vault for archiving and management of 46,000 mailboxes. Symantec Consulting Services has played an important role in deploying these different software solutions working in conjunction with the Telstra IT team and its various technology providers. A few of the key results achieved thus far include backup of more than 140 terabytes each day, including 600 percent spikes in daily backup volumes, a 10 percent improvement in backup success rates, millions in hardware, software, and maintenance savings via N+1 clustering, and archiving of more than 20 terabytes of email data.
