Get Spam and Other Email Risks Under Control

What exactly is spam?

Simply put, spam is unwanted "junk" email that you may receive from unsolicited commercial email accounts. Spam emails are often sent to large and often random lists of email addresses.

What should I do if I receive email from an unfamiliar address?

The best thing to do with spam or unwanted emails is to delete them from your inbox without opening the message or its attachments.

Is email spam dangerous?

It can be. Often times, these messages are laced with virus-laden attachments, spyware, or links to fraudulent web pages. An unsuspecting user could open an attachment that may send a virus to friends, or click a link to a site where they could mistakenly give out personal information.

What can I do to protect myself from email spam?

First, don't open suspect emails or their attachments; delete them from your inbox immediately. Also, be sure to use an email filter to reduce the amount of spam that makes it to your inbox. Lastly, be more conscious of who you are giving your email address to.

Does Symantec have a product that helps prevent spam?

Yes we do. Our Norton Internet Security 2006 product includes spam-filtering technology, and protects you against viruses, hackers, and spyware.
