Why do I need a Norton Account to use online backup?

Norton Account is a feature of Norton 360 that stores your product key and other registration information on a Symantec server. A Norton Account is required to access the Secure Online Storage feature in Norton 360.When you access the online backup, you are asked for the email address and password that you used when you created your Norton Account. This provides a secure identity to safeguard your data from being accessed by anybody else. Also, if you purchase more online storage space, this information is stored in your Norton Account.
