Keep Your Information and Identity Virus-Free

Install a high quality antivirus solution. Make sure it can scan email and IM attachments and that it has the ability to update itself automatically.
Turn off your browser's scripting, Java, and ActiveX capabilities, and disable your email program's HTML and scripting functionality. You can always turn these features back on when you need them.
Download and install browser and operating system patches as soon as they become available especially those related to known security holes.
Be extremely careful with email and IM attachments. Don't open them unless you know exactly who sent them and what's inside.
Install a good email filter to minimize the likelihood of receiving a virus through a spam email attachment.
