Don't Get Trapped in Phishing Scams

  1. Don't click on links within emails or instant messages (IMs) that ask for your personal information.
  2. Only open email attachments if you're expecting them and know what they contain.
  3. Watch out for people pretending to be potential employers, especially if they ask for your social security number and other personal information.
  4. Know the person's identity before you provide any personal information. Legitimate credit card issuers and other companies do not ask for your personal information in email.
  5. If you've provided account numbers, PINS, or passwords to a phisher, immediately notify the companies with whom you have the accounts.
