How to be "Pirate-Free"

When shopping online, make sure you're dealing with reputable sites, and make sure the site really is what it claims to be.
Be wary of offers that look too good to be true.
If software arrives in a plain envelope or white box without printed documentation, it's probably counterfeit.
In addition to trying to obtain a refund from the seller, report any suspected counterfeiting to the software's legitimate manufacturer.
