2008 CYBER SMACKDOWN $10,000 SCHOLARSHIP SWEEPSTAKES OFFICIAL RULES

  1. TO ENTER: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. Access www.norton.com/smart and follow the entry directions. Limit one (1) entry per person/email address, per day. For the purposes of this sweepstakes, a "day" is defined as 12:00:00 a.m. (Central Time) to 11:59:59 CT. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, damaged, misdirected, or stolen entries or transmissions, or for problems of any kind, whether mechanical, human, or electronic. Automated entries are prohibited and any use of such automated devices will result in disqualification. Sweepstakes entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned. Sweepstakes starts on June 22, 2008, at 12:00:00 a.m. CT and ends on September 30, 2008, at 11:59:59 p.m. CT. All online entries must be submitted electronically by 11:59:59 p.m. CT on September 30, 2008. Sponsor's computer is the official time-keeping device for the Sweepstakes.
  2. ELIGIBILITY: Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, and Canada (excluding Quebec), 14 years of age or older as of June 22, 2008, and located in the U.S. or Canada at the time of entry. Employees of Symantec Corp. ("Sponsor"), Parago, Inc., and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, and advertising and production agencies, and the immediate families (parent, child, sibling, and spouse of each) and household members of each, are not eligible. Subject to all federal, state, provincial, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited by law. By entering this Sweepstakes, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor and/or its agents.
  3. PRIZES/ODDS: One (1) check paid to the order of the winner for Ten Thousand U.S. Dollars ($10,000 USD). Winner is responsible for all federal, state, provincial, and local taxes associated with the acceptance and use of the prize. Prize is not transferable. No substitution of prize permitted except at Sponsor's option, including Sponsor's right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if advertised prize is unavailable. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
  4. DRAWING AND PRIZE REDEMPTION: One (1) prize winner will be selected in a random drawing by an independent judging organization from the aggregate of all eligible entries received. Drawings will be held on or about October 17, 2008. If a winner is an eligible minor in his/her state of residence, the prize will be awarded in the name of parent/legal guardian who must sign and return all required documents on behalf of himself/herself and his/her minor child. Winner will be notified by regular mail and/or email and will be required to complete, sign, and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release (except where prohibited) and a W-9 form (including winner's social security number, for tax purposes) for U.S. residents, or a Declaration and Complete Release and Waiver form for Canadian residents, within 14 days of the date of notification, or prize will be forfeited. If prize notification letter or prize is returned as undeliverable, or if a winner is found to be ineligible or not in compliance with these Official Rules, prize will be forfeited. Upon notification, if a Canadian resident, the selected entrant must, unaided, correctly answer a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question. In the event that the selected entrant is unable to correctly answer the skill-testing question, the Sponsor shall have the right to randomly draw another eligible entrant, and the Sponsor shall be fully and completely released and discharged from any liability or responsibility in this regard. Canadian residents may be subject to withholding taxes and Canadian residents are responsible for the reporting and payment of any income tax.
  5. LIABILITY: Prize acceptance constitutes permission (except where prohibited) to use winner's name, voice, photograph, statements, and likeness for advertising, promotional, publicity, and/or trade purposes without compensation. Sponsor and its promotional and advertising agencies, and all respective officers, directors, employees, representatives, and agents of each, shall have no liability and shall be held harmless by winner for any damage, loss, or liability to persons or property, due in whole or part, directly or indirectly, by reason of the acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of prize or participation in this Sweepstakes. Any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Sweepstakes, or any prizes awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action. Any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Sweepstakes, but in no event attorneys' fees. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend part or all of this Sweepstakes should virus, bugs, unauthorized human intervention, or other causes beyond the control of Sponsor corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness, or proper play of the Sweepstakes, and award prize in a random drawing of all valid entries received up to the date of cancellation. Sponsor and its promotional and advertising agencies, and all respective officers, directors, employees, representatives, and agents of each, are not responsible for technical, hardware, software, or telephone failures of any kind; lost or unavailable network connections; fraud; or incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions, whether caused by the Sponsor, users, or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Sweepstakes or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of submissions which may damage a user's system or limit a participant's ability to participate in the Sweepstakes. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process or with the operation of the Sweepstakes, or acts in violation of the Official Rules. This Sweepstakes is intended for play in the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec) and is governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflicts of laws principles, and all claims must be resolved in the federal or state courts located in Santa Clara County, California. In the event of a dispute regarding the specific individual entitled to receive a prize (where the individual entered online), the winning entry will be deemed made by the authorized email account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry.
