Glossary

Accreditation

Awards granted for passing online assessment exams and accepting online agreement. Certificates of accreditation are granted indicating mastery of selling/technical concepts and fluency in Symantec product lines. Accreditations are used for Symantec Partner Program designation and benefits.

Assessment

Online tests to validate candidates' knowledge and expertise in a specific product area. See SSE, SSE+ & STS for awards available. Read the Partner Training and Enablement Accreditation Fact Sheet (PDF)

Certification

An industry recognized program offered to end-user customers. Certification is not a requirement of Symantec Partner Program and does not count toward program classification. Read the Partner Training and Enablement Accreditation Fact Sheet (PDF)

CertTracker

The web-based assessment tracking tool used by Symantec to monitor individual assessment results and progress toward accreditations. Awards and certificates of accreditation are granted in CertTracker.

Classroom Training (CT)

A scheduled learning event with lab-style hands-on work, which is delivered by an instructor and conducted in a physical location.

Clinic

Live or prerecorded presentation that delivers in-depth or topical information on sales techniques, technical information or Symantec Partner Program materials.

Collaboration Tools

Tools enabling partners to build relationships with other partners or Symantec teams solicit and/or build new sales/technical tools and documentation to sell and deploy Symantec solutions.

eLearning - Online Training

The delivery of learning, training or education program by electronic means; a self-paced activity using a computer or other electronic device to provide the educational material.

Partner Group on Symantec Connect

A forum where partner peer-to-peer questions can be socialized and technical and sales answers can be provided.

Partner Learning Center

The online system used by PartnerNet to manage and deliver the multiple sales and technical learning paths and assessments individuals can follow and provide registration information and enrollment forms.

Symantec Enablement Toolkit

Electronic distribution tool - containing product content modules which provide partners with the latest sales and technical tools/collateral/information to quickly increase knowledge and understanding of the Symantec product portfolio.

Symantec Sales Expert Plus (SSE+)

Technical product sales accreditation - validates knowledge of how to technical selling capabilities knowledge for a product, including conducting sales technical presentations and demonstrations.

Symantec Sales Expert (SSE)

Product sales accreditation - validates knowledge of how to position the product within the Symantec product lines, cite the key selling points, competitive differentiation and overcome common sales objections.

Symantec Technical Specialist (STS)

Technical accreditation focusing on the product essentials of installation, configuration, use of a Symantec product; includes pre-install planning, configuration, deploying, upgrading, and basic troubleshooting techniques.

Symantec University for Partners

The embodiment of Symantec partner education and enablement; organizes learning resources such as training, collaboration and intelligence to better educate and enable Symantec partners to sell and support Symantec products.

Training

Organized learning paths utilizing eLearning or instructor-led courseware designed to prepare an individual for material mastery and accreditation testing.

Training Path

A recommended training path consists of structured delivery of sales or technical training content that leads to subject mastery and preparation for taking an accreditation exam.

Virtual Academy (VA)

A scheduled learning event with lab-style hands-on work, which is led by an instructor and conducted via a network; students and instructors work remotely (separate locations) students access remote pre-configured lab systems over the network.

Webcast

Live or prerecorded presentation of sales, technical, or partner program material delivered via WebEx or Live Meeting; typically accompanied by a live Q&A session.
