The Symantec Technology Enabled Program (STEP) facilitates unique partnerships with a variety of technology companies who are interested in establishing interoperability between their offerings and Symantec products and solutions. Through standardized test procedures and development tools, partners have the opportunity to integrate, test, and certify their products with Symantec technologies resulting in increased market opportunity. Together with our STEP partners, Symantec is committed to reducing the complexity within our customers’ IT environments.
The STEP Program consists of two membership levels:
- Base Membership – for companies that want to establish a basic technology relationship with Symantec. At this level, Symantec provides partners with basic tools and services to enable product interoperability testing, including Not-for-Resale software, product installation and configuration support, cooperative technical support for joint customer issues via TSANet, visibility on Symantec’s website, and access to the STEP logo.
- Technology Track Participation – a higher level of engagement for partners interested in integrating their products with Symantec solutions and gaining access to certification services. Services at this level vary by Technology Track, and include access to SDKs, developer support, integration validation and certification tools.
STEP Technology Tracks
Technology Tracks are available for a variety of Symantec products. While not a comprehensive list, below are some of the Technology Tracks available today:NetBackup OpenStorage – Storage Platform Integration
The OpenStorage API enables storage partners to deliver backup and recovery solutions that have tighter integration with NetBackup. Using the OpenStorage SDK and developer support from Symantec, partners develop plug-ins to their storage appliances that allow NetBackup to control when backup images are created, duplicated, and deleted. Storage appliances control how the images are stored and copied between appliances.

Enterprise Vault – Application Integration
Enables application vendors to integrate their software with Enterprise Vault via APIs made available through the Enterprise Vault SDK. The APIs allow partners to integrate with Enterprise Vault in many ways including (1) the ability to add new content to the archive, (2) filtering and classifying content as it enters the archive and (3) searching content within the archive. Partners are also provided with access to Symantec developer support to streamline the product integration effort.

Enterprise Vault – Storage Platform Certification
Facilitates the certification of storage devices (WORM and non-WORM) for use with Enterprise Vault. Partners are provided with a self-certification test kit as well as access to the Enterprise Vault certification team for support during the test process. Upon successful test verification, the device is added to the Enterprise Vault Console GUI and Enterprise Vault Compatibility List.

Storage Foundation – Storage Platform Certification
Intended for partners who want their primary storage devices to be certified for use with Veritas Storage Foundation. This track enables collaboration with Symantec to ensure that Storage Foundation’s Dynamic Multi-Pathing (DMP) technology can successfully configure itself to the connected storage and provide visibility into vendor specific attributes for that storage, thereby maximizing availability and performance.
