New Version Of ACT! For Macintosh Provides Direct Integration With Microsoft Word
Contact manager offers a new customizable contact list and taps the power of the Internet
CUPERTINO, Calif. -- August 18, 1997 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC)
today announced
ACT! 2.8 for Macintosh, a new version of the most powerful
contact manager for the Macintosh platform. ACT! 2.8 for Macintosh now provides
direct integration with Microsoft Word, a new customizable contact list and is
Internet savvy. With these new features, ACT! for Macintosh users can manage
their contacts more efficiently than ever before.
"The powerful combination of the ACT! contact database integrated with the data
available on the Internet, provides Macintosh users with more complete knowledge
of their customers," said Christopher Calisi, Vice President of the Remote
Productivity Solutions Group. "ACT!'s power and ease-of-use are essential tools
for managing business relationships more effectively and increasing personal
productivity."
Microsoft Word Integration
ACT! 2.8 now supports direct links to Microsoft Word by simply choosing the
option in the application preferences. ACT! 2.8 will continue to include the
integrated ACT! word processor but now allows the ACT! user the power and
flexibility of Microsoft Word. The user has complete flexibility to choose
which word processor best fits their needs.
Customizable Contact List
ACT! now allows users the option of viewing their contact records in a list
format and lets the user select which fields are shown in the contact list and
how the data is sorted. The list can be customized by adding or subtracting
columns or by easily moving the fields to different locations within the contact
list. ACT! uses a "non-modal" interface which means the user can display
multiple calendars, activity lists, task lists and history views at the same
time, eliminating the need to open and close windows to perform these procedures.
Internet Savvy
In addition to tracking key information about contacts, ACT! users can now tap
the power of the Internet. The advantage of a contact manager is instant access
to information and the Internet is a powerful way to get up-to-date and accurate
information. Users can now automatically link to numerous sites on the Internet
including Yahoo! maps, Yahoo! Get Local, weather information, yellow page data
and much more. For example, with one click of the mouse, the user can see a
street-level map of the contact's business or home location, or search the
Internet for company information.
Internet integration also includes direct Internet e-mail integration using
Qualcomm's Eudora e-mail system. The user can send an e-mail message or
broadcast an e-mail message to an entire database using Eudora. Additionally,
there is a new URL field type where the user can input any Internet web address
and then invoke that link directly from ACT!. ACT! 2.8 for Macintosh supports
most popular browsers including Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape
Navigator.
System Requirements
ACT! 2.8 for Macintosh requires Macintosh (68020 processor or higher) or Power
Macintosh, System 7.0 or higher, including the System 8.0, 4 MB or RAM and 5 MB
of available hard disk space.
Pricing and Availability
ACT! 2.8 for Macintosh will be available from Symantec's network of authorized
resellers. It has an estimated retail price (ERP) of $169.95 and an upgrade
price of $69.95 for registered users of previous versions of ACT! for Macintosh.
