Unisys Selects Symantec's Norton AntiVirus Solution For Global Protection

Symantec Chosen for Superior Technology and Worldwide Support

CUPERTINO, Calif. --October 1, 1997-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world's leading supplier of anti-virus software products, announced today that Unisys Corporation has selected Symantec's Norton AntiVirus software (NAV) for its global anti-virus application. A global information management company, Unisys has purchased an enterprise-wide license for installation on servers and more than 25,000 workstations in 200 locations throughout the world.

"We put the top anti-virus products on the market through an extensive internal testing process," said Gary Garb, director of corporate computer and information security for Unisys. "Symantec's Norton AntiVirus met our international support needs as well as our toughest technical requirements in terms of the latest technology, superior ergonomics and ease of installation and updating across our networks."

The Norton AntiVirus product line is a powerful anti-virus management solution offering up-to-the-moment protection for workstations and servers. NAV provides users with automatic protection against known and unknown viruses and continuously updates users with the latest virus definitions and product enhancements. With 100 percent detection and elimination statistics, as reported by an independent third party, NAV assures users of complete protection against in-the-wild and macro viruses.

NAV provides network administrators with an easy, flexible network solution. NAV can be installed and updated remotely, easing the typically time-consuming job of distributing and updating software. This allows network administrators to quickly install virus protection, ensuring that their servers and workstations are immediately protected from the threat of viral infection.

"Symantec understands the challenges and can provide solutions today and tomorrow to support a global company like Unisys," said Dana Siebert, vice president of the Americas, Symantec. "Symantec's global strategy and robust multi-tier solution is representative of our serious commitment toward providing maximum virus protection that will help our corporate customers remain productive and keep their computers safe and reliable at all times."

Symantec AntiVirus Research Center (SARC)
Norton AntiVirus Solution is backed by the worldwide support of the Symantec AntiVirus Research Center (SARC). SARC comprises a dedicated team of virus experts who provide swift responses to local and global computer threats, actively researching and developing technologies to eliminate such threats, and educating the public on safe computing practices.

As new computer viruses appear, SARC develops identification and detection of these viruses, and provides either a repair or delete operation, thus keeping users protected against the latest virus threats. These virus definitions updates are available to users of Norton AntiVirus, and are easily obtained by using the LiveUpdate or Intelligent Updater. LiveUpdate provides one-button access to the latest virus definition updates, free of charge (other than normal phone and Internet charges) to registered users. Symantec is the only anti-virus company that provides its users virus definitions that are free of charge, easy to obtain and install, and updated monthly by SARC.
