Symantec Response to CyberMedia Lawsuit
Cupertino, Calif. --February 5, 1998--In response to Cybermedia's lawsuit announced earlier today, Enrique Salem, Vice President, Security and Assistance Business Unit, Symantec Corporation says: "We have not yet had the opportunity to examine the lawsuit in detail. We believe their accusation lacks merit and we will contest it vigorously.
"Norton Uninstall Deluxe was launched in October last year and has been well received by the market because it satisfies customers who want to remove programs from their PC easily, thoroughly and safely. In fact, PC Data listed Norton Uninstall Deluxe as the ninth best selling Windows business software product for the month of December.
"Our product was developed by a small independent company, Zebrasoft, in Atlanta, Georgia. Zebrasoft strongly disagrees with the claims that Cybermedia is making. For example, Cybermedia claims that a DLL in our product was stolen from Cybermedia's product. Symantec licensed the DLL in question from Elltech, an independent company and the code is available to license from their web site (www.elltech.com)."
