Norton Utilities, Norton AntiVirus, and WinFax PRO Named to PC/Computing's Prestigious "A-List"
Cupertino, Calif. --February 10, 1998-- Symantec Corporation, the leader in utilities, anti-virus, and remote productivity software, (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that PC/Computing named WinFax PRO to the magazine's "A-List" in its February 1998 edition. The A-List, which is published yearly, represents the editors' top picks for 100 hardware, software, and Internet products. Symantec products dominated the list in the Tools and Utilities category with Norton Utilities 3.0 for Windows 95, Norton Utilities 2.0 for Windows NT, and Norton AntiVirus 4.0 for Windows 95. WinFax PRO earned recognition in the Personal Productivity Software category.
Each year, PC/Computing editors and lab technicians evaluate several thousand products for the best combination of performance, technology, usability, innovation, and value. Winners are named monthly. Then, at year's end, all the monthly winners are put through rigorous testing to determine the final 100 winners. According to the magazine, more than one million readers use the results as a foolproof shopping guide.
Selected as best Windows 95 system utility, NU 3.0 for Windows 95 was lauded for its ability to "spot system trouble before it spoils your data" as well as for its virus-checking and crash protection capabilities. NU 2.0 for Windows NT was named best Windows NT system utility and was described as "the first complete set of system utilities for Windows NT."
As the top pick in the anti-virus software category, NAV 4.0 for Windows 95 was commended as a tool that "stops infections before they happen-it even scans Internet downloads." Editors also noted that NAV's free automatic program updates merited distinction.
WinFax PRO 8.0 beat competitors as top communications software because it "lets you send and receive faxes in batches-saving you time and money."
