Symantec Executive Elected Consumer Products Council President
Cupertino, Calif. --February 10, 1998-- Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ: SYMC), the world's leading supplier of anti-virus and utilities software products, today announced that Allyson Seelinger, director of end user channel sales for the company, has been elected to serve as president of the Consumer Products Council (CPC). The CPC is an industry organization dedicated to finding solutions for common retailing issues in the high-tech marketplace. Voted by the CPC Board of Directors, Seelinger's office is effective immediately.

As CPC president, Seelinger will be responsible for managing the organization's task force groups which analyze significant industry trends and issues such as category management, syndicated data and industry business practices. Seelinger will serve to keep these task force groups focused and to further drive the development of better merchandising methods. She will also manage the organization's quarterly meetings and open forums, which address common market challenges. Additionally, she will oversee the invitation of executive retail guest speakers from other industries to discuss issues facing their respective industries.
Seelinger has worked for Symantec for more than ten years and has more than 16 years experience in the software industry. She has been a member of CPC for two years, becoming a board member in 1997. Other newly-elected officers include: CPC Vice President Kim Motika, vice president of sales, Interplay Productions; CPC Secretary Brenda Metzger, vice president of sales, CyberMedia; and CPC Treasurer Karen Rosenberg, principal, R2 Sales. CPC Executive Director Dave Eliasberg chairs the board.
