Firewallª for NT Users
Cupertino, Calif --April 28, 1998-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:
SYMC), the world's leading provider of utilities and anti-virus software,
today announced that Secure Computing Corporation (Nasdaq: SCUR) has
selected Norton AntiVirus
(NAV) as its preferred anti-virus solution. Secure computing will
ship a trial version of Norton AntiVirus for Firewalls with the Secure
Computing Firewall for NT - the first and only Microsoft
BackOffice compliant firewall on the market today.
Secure Computing Firewall for NT is central to the company's
strategy to provide multiple layers of security for the Windows NT
environment. Symantec 's NAV for Firewalls provides Firewall for NT
with a powerful first line of defense against virus threats by intercepting
and destroying incoming viruses in real time-before they reach beyond the
corporate walls and through the Internet to clients, customers and other
digital domains. Responses to new virus threats are developed by the
>Symantec AntiVirus
Research Center (SARC) and are made available to users via LiveUpdate,
which provides automatic access to the latest virus definition updates.
"We prefer to use Symantec anti-virus solutions to protect our
Firewall for NT customers because NAV's unprecedented level of
protection against new and unknown viruses from all sources," said
Andrew Stevens, product manager for Secure Computing Firewall for
NT. "Symantec's NAV products provide maximum virus protection at
every point of entry without degrading system performance."
NAV for Firewalls gives industry-leading NT and UNIX firewalls
continuous, comprehensive protection from Internet-spread viruses.
Developed in close consultation with leading firewall vendors, NAV for
Firewalls scans Internet traffic and file attachments, removes any viruses
before they invade a computer network, and repairs damaged files. Flexible
remote administration and minimal performance impact make it easy to deploy
at the corporate gateways.
"Symantec is pleased to offer its suite of anti-virus products to
Secure Computing customers," said Enrique Salem, vice president of
Symantec's Security and Assistance Business Unit. "Secure Computing's
commitment to providing total security solutions is reflected in the
company providing its users with the leading anti-virus brand."
The Norton AntiVirus product line includes a multi-tier strategy that
integrates products at the desktop, server, GroupWare server, Internet
gateway and firewall to provide users with the most comprehensive virus
detection and repair. The products provide users the security of knowing
they have the most complete protection available, whether downloading files
from the Internet, opening attached Word documents, or accessing floppy
disks.
Symantec AntiVirus Research Center SARC is the industry's largest
dedicated team of virus experts. With offices located in the United States,
Japan, Australia, and the Netherlands, the sun never sets on SARC. The
center's mission is to provide swift, global responses to computer virus
threats, proactively research and develop technologies that eliminate such
threats, and educate the public on safe computing practices. As new
