Symantec's Norton CrashGuard Deluxe and Norton Web Services Trialware Bundled with CompUSA Service Protection Agreement

Cupertino, Calif. --June 5, 1998-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC), the worldwide leader in utilities and anti-virus, today announced that CompUSA will include 30-day trial versions of CrashGuard Deluxe and Norton Web Services with each comprehensive Technology Assurance Program (TAP) it sells. CompUSA will bundle customized trial versions of the software on a CD that CompUSA TAP customers can use as a first line of defense against software problems.

Purchasers of the service protection will be able to use CrashGuard Deluxe and Norton Web Services for 30 days without cost. In addition, the version of CrashGuard Deluxe that users will receive with their extended warranty has been modified to provide unlimited use of the Rescue Disk utility without cost.

"These solutions make computing easier for the large number of users who take advantage of CompUSA's Technology Assurance Program," said Enrique Salem, vice president of Symantec's Security and Assistance Business Unit. "By including CrashGuard Deluxe and Norton Web Services, we are offering CompUSA TAP customers powerful tools for protecting their investments in new computers."

"We're pleased to be able to offer trial versions of CrashGuard Deluxe and NWS with our Technology Assurance Programs because we believe they will enhance our customers overall satisfaction with their PC purchase," said Larry Mondry, executive vice president of Merchandising at CompUSA.

Full versions of CrashGuard Deluxe automatically protect users against PC crashes and screen freezes, and detect and solve software problems behind the scenes without slowing down system performance. CrashGuard Deluxe includes Norton AntiVirus software to scan, detect, and remove viruses.

Full versions of Norton Web Services consist of a growing library of services and utilities available over the Web. As a member of the service, users may access information, support, and LiveUpdate Pro -- a powerful utility program that locates and helps users install any hardware drivers and software updates specific to the users' system.
