BEA Selects Symantec as Strategic Java Tool Partner

Sunnyvale, Calif --July 29, 1998-- BEA Systems Inc., (Nasdaq: BEAS), the

world's largest enterprises, today announced that it has selected Symantec Corp.
as its strategic Java tools partner. As part of this partnership, BEA and
Symantec are cooperating on development work to provide integration capabilities
between current and future versions of BEA M3, BEA's component middleware
platform, and Symantec's enterprise tools, using Symantec's open application
programming interface (API) architecture. The cooperative efforts are intended
to provide customers with reduced development times and faster deployment of
critical business applications, making use of Java, Symantec's popular
development tools, and BEA's scalable, reliable middleware. If you want to

work, BEA has licensed Symantec's Visual Café for Java, Visual Page, and
Symantec C++ development tools. Symantec Visual Café for Java is a powerful and
complete Java development solution for building Java database solutions.
