Symantec Mobile Update helps keep mobile employee up-to-date with
critical information and significantly reduces the costs of mobile
ownership by reducing the size of document updates by as much as 95
percent. For mobile professionals, e-mail is the most popular and
reliable connection to the network and one of the easiest ways to send
and receive information. Mobile Update combines Symantec's
proprietary "delta" technology with binary compression to ensure that
document changes are packaged and compressed in the smallest format
possible and then sent to the user as e-mail attachments. For
example, if cells in a spreadsheet or text in a presentation are
changed, they are seamlessly updated on the client from within the
user's e-mail. This dramatically decreases the download times and
alleviates the frustration faced by mobile users.
Mobile Update requires either a Novell or NT Network Operating
Systems. On the server, Mobile Update requires a Windows NT 4.0
Server/Workstation, 133 Mhz. or better, 32 MB of RAM and 20 MB of hard
disk space. For the client it requires a PC with 80486 or higher
processor, 8 MB of RAM, 10 MB hard disk space, and Windows 95/Windows
