Symantec Leads the U.K. and U.S. Retail Markets in Business Software Sales

- Independent Data Confirms Users Prefer Symantec's Best Selling Software Over Competitors -

Cupertino, Calif --August 24, 1998-- Data released by U.K.based independent research firm Chart Track shows that Symantec is the leading vendor of business software in retail chains throughout the United Kingdom, exceeding total combined sales of competing software from Network Associates (Nasdaq: NETA), Dr. Solomons (Nasdaq: SOLLY), Cybermedia (Nasdaq: CYBR) and Quarterdeck (Nasdaq: QDEK).

The company's performance in the U.K. mirrors its leadership position in the U.S. retail market, where its products consistently account for more positions in the PC Data top ten list every month than any other vendor.

In the UK retail market in July, Symantec's Norton AntiVirus, Norton AntiVirus Deluxe, Norton Uninstall Deluxe and Norton Utilities were among the ten top-selling business software products measured by units. The list, compiled by Chart Track, measures sales from 17 key retail chains in the U.K., representing 80% of the total retail market. According to the data, Symantec's software sales were second only to Microsoft. The company surpassed all other business software vendors as well as several leading vendors in gaming, education and reference software.
