Symantec Takes Action In Uninstall Lawsuit

Cupertino, Calif --September 14, 1998-- In order to remove any uncertainty caused by the ongoing legal situation and through working with its channel partners, Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that it has removed the current version of Norton Uninstall Deluxe from Norton SystemWorks, and will ship a significantly enhanced version of Norton SystemWorks in the U.S. this week with a Bonus Pack of free software. Symantec also will discontinue shipping Norton Uninstall Deluxe.

Commenting on Symantec's actions, Jerre Stead, chairman of Ingram Micro said: "Our partnership with Symantec has never been stronger. Until further notice, every copy of Norton SystemWorks will be accompanied by a free Bonus Pack comprising Norton Mobile Essentials, Visual Page, WinFax Basic Addition and pcANYWHERE Express. This is in addition to the core products of Norton SystemWorks that are integrated together: Norton Utilities, Norton AntiVirus, Norton CrashGuard and a six month subscription to Norton Web Services. With the Bonus Pack, Norton SystemWorks represents a value of over $500. The estimated retail price of Norton SystemWorks is $99.

Symantec is complying with a temporary restraining order issued Friday, September 11 by the court. Norton Uninstall Deluxe 1.0 was developed by a third party. Symantec estimates that the revenue impact in the September quarter will be less than $5 million.
