Symantec's Norton Your Eyes Only Named Editor's Choice and Best Buy in SC/Infosecurity News Magazine
- Norton Your Eyes Only Beats Nine Competitors in Encryption Review -
Cupertino, Calif --September 18, 1998-- Symantec Corporation
(Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and
personal computing, today announced that Norton Your Eyes Only was
awarded SC InfoSecurity News Magazine's Editor's Choice and Best Buy
awards in an encryption comparison in the September 1998 issue.
Norton Your Eyes Only was chosen over product competitors from PC
Guardian, Network Associates, Security Dynamics, Utimaco Safeguard,
WinMagic and others.
The magazine's encryption review focused on "strong encryption" in the
face of a number of reports of "cracked encryption". The products
were chosen based on three main factors. First, the level of data
security they provide in the way the product is implemented and the
cryptographic algorithm used (strong or weak). Second, the
functionality of the product, such as integration with the operating
system or with specific or de facto standard applications and last but
not least, usability and for automatic encryption products,
transparency of operation.
"It's a great honor to receive the Editor's Choice and Best Buy awards
from the leading computer security magazine in the U.S.," said Enrique
Salem, Symantec's vice president of the Security and Assistance
Business Unit. "The Editor's Choice and Best Buy awards assures users
and administrators that Norton Your Eyes Only will protect their
valuable data everywhere it goes-on your office and home PCs, on the
road with your laptop, and over the Internet."
SC InfoSecurity News reported that, "Norton Your Eyes Only is
formidable as an easy to use desktop encryption product and its simple
exploitation of the Windows Explorer will mean that many users can
integrate this seamlessly within their existing operation of Windows"
as stated by the magazine.
Norton Your Eyes Only provides data protection through features such
as "on-the-fly" encryption technology, that automatically decrypts
files when authorized users open them and re-encrypts them when saved
or closed. With theft on the rise and the Internet used increasingly
