Symantec and Platinum technology, Inc. Announce Strategic Business Alliance
- PLATINUM extends security offerings with Norton AntiVirus and is chosen as preferred provider of consulting and education for
Symantec's Visual Café for Java Enterprise Suite -
Cupertino, Calif --September 23, 1998-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:
SYMC) and PLATINUM technology, inc. (Nasdaq: PLAT) today announced
they have entered into a strategic business alliance that will benefit
their customers through product and services offerings in key
information technology areas, including security and application
development.
As part of the collaboration between the two companies, PLATINUM will
offer Symantec's Norton AntiVirus product as an extension of
PLATINUM's enterprise information security and desktop management
solutions. PLATINUM will also become a preferred consulting and
education provider in support of Visual Café for Java Enterprise
Suite, Symantec's development tool offering for building Java-based
applications.

PLATINUM is now providing Norton AntiVirus as a virus protection
solution to customers implementing PLATINUM's enterprise information
security and desktop management solutions. Customers will be able to
purchase Norton AntiVirus directly from PLATINUM, along with
PLATINUM's security and desktop management products.
For customers using Symantec's Visual Café for Java to develop
enterprise applications, PLATINUM is providing consulting and
education services supporting the implementation of the Visual Café
tools. To further support the Java community, Symantec and PLATINUM
are working together to develop a Java certification program, which
will be offered through PLATINUM's education division.
