- Customers Can Easily Distribute, Manage and Update Norton AntiVirus
Using Comprehensive Tivoli Management Solutions -
CUPERTINO, Calif. - Oct. 12, 1998 -Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:
SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and personal
computing, today announced it will offer Tivoli-Ready versions of
Norton AntiVirus, optimized for customers of Tivoli Enterprise
software and Tivoli IT Director this quarter.
Certified at the Premiere level by the Tivoli Partner Association,
Norton AntiVirus has met Tivoli's stringent requirements for carrying
the Tivoli-Ready logo. Premiere-level integration with Tivoli's
leading systems management products will allow Norton AntiVirus
customers to instantly take advantage of Tivoli's management
capabilities to centrally manage the distribution, configuration,
updating and event functions of the software in an established Tivoli
environment.
"By integrating Norton AntiVirus with both Tivoli Enterprise and Tivoli
IT Director, Symantec is providing Tivoli customers with one of the
industry's leading anti-virus software solutions for their individual
computing environments," said Alan Bird, director of the Tivoli Partner
Association. "By partnering with software vendors like Symantec,
Tivoli offers customers the choice to select best-of-breed solutions
while also reducing their total cost of ownership."
Through the Tivoli framework, customers will be able to automate the
functions needed to manage Norton AntiVirus within Tivoli Enterprise
or Tivoli IT Director environments. Tivoli customers will be able to
automatically distribute, install and update Norton AntiVirus from one
central location. In addition, the software will allow the automatic
distribution of virus definition updates to supported Norton AntiVirus
clients and servers across the network. It will also monitor the
state of anti-virus protection on the network and notify the
administrator of systems that have outdated virus definitions or are
not running AutoProtect. Finally, the Norton AntiVirus Tivoli-Ready
modules will allow administrators to configure automatic actions to
trigger specific events.
"It is very important for Symantec to provide comprehensive anti-virus
solutions to our customers that will work in the specific management
environments they have invested in," said Enrique Salem, vice
president of Symantec's Security and Assistance Business Unit. "With
the partnership between Symantec and Tivoli Systems, customers at all
levels - from the small- and medium-sized business to the largest
enterprise customers - can take advantage of Norton AntiVirus the
industry-leading Tivoli infrastructure they already have in place."
Premiere-level products integrate with Tivoli products such as
software distribution, task management, inventory management and
network management. Partners with Premiere-level products develop
applications that use Tivoli solutions, while remaining focused on
their respective areas of expertise.
Tivoli's partnership program, the Tivoli's Partner Association, is the
solution to the network management problem of integrating multiple
products from various vendors in heterogeneous networking
environments. By working collectively, Tivoli and Tivoli Partners are
breaking down the complex barriers that have prevented complete
enterprise management in the past.
The Norton AntiVirus product line includes a multi-tier strategy that
integrates a powerful anti-virus solution at desktops, servers,
groupware servers, Internet e-mail gateways and firewalls to provide
users with the most comprehensive virus detection and repair. The
products provide users the security of knowing they have the most
complete protection available, whether downloading files from the
Internet, opening e-mail attachments or accessing floppy disks.
