Oracle Standardizes on Symantec Corporate Solutions Worldwide

Oracle purchases worldwide licenses for Norton AntiVirus, Norton Ghost, Norton 2000 and pcANYWHERE

Cupertino, Calif. January 14, 1999 - Oracle Corporation (Nasdaq: ORCL) has selected Symantec's family of corporate software solutions to protect its worldwide network and contribute to improved network user efficiency and productivity, Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC) announced today.

Oracle, the world's second largest software company, and the leading supplier of software for enterprise information management, has renewed a 29,000 seat license for pcANYWHERE.

Oracle already holds a license for approximately 30,000 seats of Norton System Center, a snap-in to the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), to enable its network administrators to easily and automatically deploy, configure, monitor, update and manage the Symantec software. Contract value has not been announced.

"Symantec's family of corporate software solutions offers best-of-breed technology and is backed up by high levels of customer service and technical support," said Gary Roberts, Vice President, Americas IT for Oracle Corporation. "We have been a Norton AntiVirus customer since 1994 and have been impressed not only by the way the technology protects our network from virus infection, but also because Symantec has developed Norton AntiVirus to be easy and cost-effective to deploy and manage."

The single engine architecture in Norton AntiVirus was a key factor in the renewal of Oracle's anti-virus license. All Norton AntiVirus engines come from a single code-base so that modifications or updates to the engine in response to new viruses or strains of virus can be applied by customers across multiple platforms in a single, cost-efficient deployment as part of the LiveUpdate process to install new virus definitions.

Not only does the single engine architecture reduce IS management time and cost, it also ensures that Norton AntiVirus users benefit from the fastest response to new threats such as the Remote Explorer, Boza and Paix viruses as they emerge.

Commenting on Oracle's decision to standardize on Symantec corporate solutions software to protect its worldwide network and improve network user efficiency and productivity, Roberts added: "We have selected Symantec because they clearly recognize the needs of network administrators for software solutions that not only do the job they are intended for, but are easy to manage and deploy across vast networks."

Enrique Salem, vice president of Symantec's Security and Assistance Business Unit, said: "We are very pleased to have broadened our relationship with Oracle to include all of our corporate products. Symantec's corporate business is on a fast track. Oracle is one of many high-profile corporate customers we have been appointed to in the last six months."

About Norton Ghost
Norton Ghost enables users to copy the entire contents of one disk to another or to a disk image file. They can, in turn, use the image file as a template to create copies of the original disk.
