Norton SystemWorks Continues to Set the Pace in Retail Sales

Symantec is the Leading Provider of Business Software in the U.S. Retail Market with Four of the Top Ten Products

CUPERTINO, Calif. - January 21, 1999 - Symantec Corporation's (Nasdaq:SYMC) award-winning utility suite, Norton SystemWorks, was the third best-selling Windows business software product in December, 1998, according to data released by independent market intelligence firm, PC Data for U.S. retail sales in December.

PC Data research shows Norton SystemWorks is the leading utility suite with 76 percent* unit market share for December. PC Data reports total unit sales for December were 45,437, an 81 percent increase over November. *Based on sales of Norton SystemWorks and McAfee Office

In the Windows business software category, Symantec continues to be the leading vendor with four of the top 10 positions, more than any other software vendor including Microsoft.

Norton AntiVirus retains its position as the best-selling anti-virus product for both Windows and Macintosh platforms, and the best-selling Windows product overall next to Microsoft Windows 98. Other top-selling Symantec products include Norton Utilities for Windows and Macintosh, pcANYWHERE 32 for Windows and Winfax Pro 9.0 for Windows.
