Symantec Strengthens Management Team with Chief Financial Officer and Vice President Promotions

CUPERTINO, Calif. - March 11, 1999 - Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced it has expanded its management team with the promotions of Greg Myers to chief financial officer and Art Courville to vice president and general counsel.

Myers, 48, has been with Symantec for six years and has served as vice president, planning and analysis for three years during which time he developed the company's strategic planning process. He has been acting chief financial officer since January. Prior to joining Symantec, he was director of financial planning and analysis at Novell Corporation, and has held numerous other financial management positions in Silicon Valley companies since 1975.

Courville, 40, who joined Symantec in 1993, has been promoted from senior director, legal. He has successfully led the company through a variety of acquisitions and licensing transactions and has been the principal proponent of the company's Patent Program aimed at developing a strong patent portfolio and protecting Symantec's innovative technology. In addition, Courville is Symantec's representative on the Business Software Alliance Board of Directors. As vice president and general counsel, he will lead the worldwide Legal Department for Symantec. Prior to joining Symantec, Courville was an attorney with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
