Symantec Offers Mobile WinFax for Palm Computing Platform
From the makers of WinFax PRO, The First Complete Fax Solution For Palm Computing® Device Users
Cupertino, Calif. May 10, 1999 - Symantec Corporation
(Nasdaq:SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and personal
computing, today announced the upcoming availability of Mobile WinFax for the
Palm Computing® platform, a new product from the makers of WinFax PRO, the
number one desktop faxing solution. Mobile WinFax provides a professional image
for people on the move and helps them to stay productive all the time by
enabling them to send and receive high quality faxes directly from their Palm
Computing® device. For a first look at the beta version of Mobile WinFax for the
Palm Computing® platform, customers can visit the Symantec web site at
www.symantec.com/mobile/winfax.
Mobile WinFax keeps users in touch with all their fax messages and gives them
the ability to manage them right from their Palm Computing® device. They don't
need to wait until they return to the office in order to send or receive a fax.
With Mobile WinFax and a Palm Modem, they can compose a message, attach a
document, even draw a map and send it off right away. Users can also receive
their fax messages directly or view a list of all faxes received and decide
whether to view them then or wait until later.
"It can be a real challenge to stay on top of your game when you are away from
the office: responding to immediate requests, waiting for a fax message to be
sent or received, keeping track of specific projects. The mobile business
professional needs to maintain productivity without sacrificing quality," said
Christopher Calisi, vice president of Symantec's Remote Productivity Business
Unit. "By putting the power of a faxing solution into the Palm Computing®
device, Mobile WinFax makes it possible to stay on top from the palm of their
hand."
Mobile WinFax also provides the user control over how and when to send and
receive fax messages. Messages for immediate communication can be transmitted
using a Palm modem. For example, users can receive a memo, write notes on it and
send it back without missing a beat. Or, directions to the meeting spot can be
sent to others while en route with a cellular phone and Palm Modem. Thus,
there's no need to wait until returning to their laptop or desktop computer to
handle the items that would otherwise end up on the "to do" list.
Alternately, users can compose a fax on their Palm Computing® device and HotSync
with their desktop computer, which then transmits the message. If there is a
document on the desktop needed as an attachment to a fax, simply compose the
message with the document to be attached specified, all in advance. When the
user HotSyncs with his computer, the message with attachment will automatically
be faxed.
Mobile WinFax maximizes the benefits of the Palm Computing® device by allowing
the user to annotate messages to be faxed. Notes can be made on a document, maps
drawn on a memo. Mobile WinFax provides the tools for the mobile professional to
stay productive without hassle and without compromise to the quality of their
messages.
In addition, custom cover pages and frequently used small attachments can be
stored directly on the Palm Computing® device to be used when faxing directly
from the Palm Computing® device. Alternatively, a library of attachments can be
listed on the Palm Computing® device and available for faxes sent using HotSync.
This maximizes productivity while minimizing the space used on the Palm
Computing® device.
