pcANYWHERE32 Continues to Outperform Competitors as Home Office Computing Names It "Best Buy"
Editors Call pcANYWHERE32 the "Single Most Flexible Remote Access and Remote Control Platform
Cupertino, Calif. May 11, 1999 - Symantec Corporation
(Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and personal
computing, announced that pcANYWHERE32 was named Best Buy in a challenging
round-up of remote access products conducted by Home Office Computing magazine.
pcANYWHERE32 won this May 1999 product comparison in which editors evaluated and
rated four remote access products for their value, performance, ease of use, and
suitability for home office use. Home Office Computing editors called
pcANYWHERE32 "the single most flexible remote access and remote control platform
tested."
"Thousands of computer users consider Home Office Computing the definitive
source for accurate, well-tested information to help them optimize their
small-business or home-office environments," said Christopher Calisi, vice
president of the Remote Productivity Solutions Business Unit at Symantec. "As a
result, we are very pleased the editors of Home Office Computing have selected
pcANYWHERE32 as the preferred remote access product."
The Best Buy award from Home Office Computing is the latest in a series of
awards pcANYWHERE32 has earned recently from the industry's most respected
publications. A sample of pcANYWHERE32's notable awards include Editor's Choice
from Windows NT Magazine December 1998, from PC Magazine in September 1998 and
from Network Computing in May 1998. Also in May 1998, pcANYWHERE32 earned a
place on Windows Magazine's influential WinList of recommended products.
"Symantec's popular remote access package combines ease of use with speedy file
transfers and robust tools," wrote Home Office Computing editors in the recent
product round-up. "pcANYWHERE32 is refreshingly quick, especially in terms of
screen repaints during remote-control sessions. In most cases, the other
programs were maddeningly slow when it came to showing what was happening on the
system connected to the other end of our phone line. By contrast, pcANYWHERE32
allowed us to move windows and icons, load programs, and create documents on the
remote system with little effort."
In testing each product for performance during complex, processor-intensive
repaints, only pcANYWHERE32 was able to send a video frame across the phone
connection; "the test was too great a challenge for two [of the] programs, which
crashed under the strain," editors wrote.
pcANYWHERE32 also outperformed competitors in file transfer tests, transferring
a 1MB test file in just 34.8 seconds and a 5MB image in only 2 minutes and 46
seconds.
"pcANYWHERE32 is overall the most solid program we tested, providing great
security features, impressive performance, and most of the advanced features
you'll need," editors concluded. "We recommend pcANYWHERE32 to any home-based or
mobile worker."
